Christy Cornell
Children’s Dance Teacher
Christy Cornell, a life-long dancer, began studying Duncan Dance in 1999 with Mary Sano. Christy appeared extensively with Mary Sano and her Duncan Dancers, performing in 2001 at the Isadora Duncan International Festival in Budapest and touring Hungary as part of Sano’s group. At the festival, Christy attended workshops of such prestigious Duncan dancers as Lori Belilove, Jeanne Bresciani, Barbara Kane, Patricia Adams, and Catherine Gallant.

I believe, as Isadora Duncan believed, that all children should be allowed to move, to breathe, and to experience their natural surroundings. To me, the dance teaches essential components to strengthen a child’s sense of self and well-being. Through the freedom of movement that Duncan dance embraces and through the expression of the body and the soul to the voice of the music, you can see children build self-confidence and become more attuned to themselves and others. Because of this, I find that teaching Duncan dance to young children is particularly rewarding.
Duncan dance focuses on the body’s natural movements, on the beauty of the body itself, and on the beauty of nature around us. Duncan dance isn’t just movement, it is an experience.
